About Us

With an aim to bring positive change in the Himalayas, Eco Nepal Trekkers was founded in 2023.

Few years back, we noticed a gap in Nepal’s trekking industry. Even though there were over 4000 trekking agencies, only a handful of them provided cultural insights to the travellers.

In fact, many overlooked the deep cultural significance Himalayas brought to the table.

At the same time, we witnessed the growing environmental challenges in these mountains. Trails meant to be eco-conscious were being ignored, and waste was replacing snow in places that should remain clean.

So, we decided to take matters into our own hands – to create a trekking agency built on two core principles: promoting Himalayan culture and eco-friendly trekking.

Thus the story of EcoNepal Trekkers begins.

Our Story And Mission

The heart behind EcoNepalTrekkers comes from our founder, Pemba Tamang. Pemba grew up in the small village of Kavre, where more than half of locals worked as a guide or a porter.

He grew up by hearing the experiences of trekkers as his bed-time story.

And in 2009, when he finally got an opportunity to be a porter, he grabbed it with both hands. His first trip was to Everest Base Camp

While carrying heavy loads of trekkers, he got to enjoy the close-up view of mountains like Amadablam, Mount Pumori, and Mount Everest.

Not only that from his first trip, he also managed to gain some valuable insights about local Sherpa community.

Inspired by his first trip, he continued his journey through Himalayas as a porter. In next 5 years, he learned all about the cultures of Lama, Tamang, Gurung, and Magar communityIn fact, he even managed to learn their local dialect.

Then in 2014, Pemba finally earned his license as a professional trekking guide. This step allowed him to lead the trek while sharing his growing knowledge on Himalayan Culture.

Using all his experience he guided travellers across all the iconic trails like Annapurna Base Camp, Langtang Valley and Manasalu Circuit

After building 16 years worth of experience, he became one of the best. Not just that, he came back to his local community and started teaching few local guides & porters about the culture that he learned through his days in Himalayas.

But while interacting with them, Pemba saw some harsh realities of the trekking industry. He noticed that his fellow porters often face unfair pay and their working conditions? Well, let’s just say it wasn’t that great.

Additionally, he came into realization that all the cultural stories were slowly fading away. However, those weren’t the only thing that he was worried about.

His biggest worry of all was THE MOUNTAINS. The Himalayas that was supposed to remain pristine was slowly losing it’s charm to pollution and garbage.

So right there and then, he decided to be THE CHANGE

Our visionary leader decided to open a trekking agency. On his agency, he vowed to lead a trek that promoted equal pay.

Furthermore, he made it his misson to save the nature of the himalayas. In the process, he hopes to promote the Himalayan culture on the global stage.
