Mardi Himal Trek 3 Days From Pokhara Overview

The trip to the Mardi Himal trail in Nepal has become one of the hottest destinations among Nepal Trekking trips lately. As a new pathway that was just opened in 2012, it surprised everybody and attracted a lot of people. Among the many journeys available for new travellers, this is the best designed and the expedition that will help you to be mesmerised by the Annapurna range.

The principal factor that makes it so attractive for tourists is the bright mountain scenery and location. The Mardi Himal trek is one of the great short, low-endurance treks that can be completed in 3 – 10 days, depending upon the itinerary you choose.

Your short 3-day Mardi Himal Trek starts from Pokhara and ends in Pokhara. You can undertake this short 3-day Mardi Himal Trek if you like to witness mountain views in a short period. But if you have two weeks of vacation, then we suggest you undertake our 10-Day Mardi Himal Trek.

The trailhead of the hiking adventure is, to quite some extent, analogous to many other Annapurna region treks in Nepal. The first place everybody visits is Pokhara as usual. Many people tend to tick the box with “a night at an Australian Camp on our first day.”

The best part of the Mardi Himal Trek is that you get to enjoy the premium views of Mardi Himal—5,587 m (18,330 ft)— as well as the other snow-capped mountains like Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South(7,219 m), Machhapuchhre(6,997 meters) and Gangapurna Himal (7,454m).

This trek is especially one magnificent place that provides beautiful mountain views, different types of wild animals in green forests, and where the hiker can cross the rivers and ridges in a single walk.

Is this Mardi Himal Trek suitable for you?

Being graded as moderately difficult, this trek is best for both beginners and experienced trekkers. This new trek offers a stunning view of the Annapurna region in a short time.

With a little preparation for physical fitness, anyone can join this trek. The maximum altitude you will reach during this trek is the base camp, which is 4500 m. Compared to the Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Base Camp trek, the Mardi Himal Base Camp trek is easier.

Although the chance of altitude sickness is lower in this trek, we should not neglect its symptoms. The route is quite peaceful, yet a stunning mountain view will amaze you.

After reaching the hotel, take time to relax for a while. Later, you can visit our office for a short briefing on the Mardi Himal trek, and we will also handle some paperwork.

Note: Don’t forget to bring the documents, including your passport, while visiting the office.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara Day

Today, you will wake up early in the morning and prepare yourself for the scenic drive to Pokhara. Our team will pick you up from the hotel and take you to the Gongabu bus station to catch the tourist bus for Pokhara.

The journey will be about 6-7 hours, and the bus will stop in the middle of the trip for a lunch break and a toilet break. The journey to Pokhara will be smooth and comfortable. Once you arrive in the city, you’ll check into your hotel, where you’ll be staying for the night.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast in Pokhara, we will hop in a taxi and head to Kande via Sarangkot/Phedi. The drive takes about 1.25 hours. From Kande, we will start our hike up to Australian Camp through the forested hills. The walk will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, leading us to the stunning Australian Camp.

Along the way, we will be treated to breathtaking views of the Annapurna Range, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Annapurna II and IV, and Lamjung Himal. We will have the opportunity to explore the charming village of Pothana.

Tonight, we will stay in a cozy trekking lodge with an attached bathroom. Meals provided include lunch, dinner, tea, coffee, and mineral water.

Day 04: Trek to Forest Camp

Today, we will make our way to Forest Camp. Along the route, we will stop for permit inspections. After about two hours of walking, you will reach Deurali, which is a key point where you can choose to head towards Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill. Here, we will enjoy a special lunch, which is different from the tea houses we will find along the trek to Forest Camp.

Continuing on, we will trek through the forest until we reach Forest Camp, situated at an altitude of 3050 meters. The trek from Australian Camp to Forest Camp takes about 6-7 hours, offering a clear path through the lush greenery of the forest.

Day 05: Trek to High Camp

After a nice breakfast at Forest Camp, you will set off through beautiful rhododendron forests. After about 3 hours of walking, you will arrive at Low Camp. From there, you will continue along the trails until you reach “Badal Dada”. Finally, after trekking for about 6 to 7 hours from Forest Camp, you will reach High Camp, which is at an altitude of 3900 meters. You will spend the night at cozy lodges that serve tasty meals.

Day 06: Trek to Upper View Point or Base Camp

Today’s goal is to reach Mardi Himal Base Camp. You will wake up extra early to catch the beautiful sunrise from High Camp. It’s going to be a tough day with a narrow, rocky trail ahead.

Leaving High Camp, you will climb for about 4 hours until you reach Mardi Himal Base Camp. Take in the breathtaking views from there before trekking back to High Camp. You’ll spend the night at the lodge in High Camp.

Highlights include the amazing sunrise view, seeing the ice fields and blue glaciers of the Sanctuary wall, and enjoying the stunning sights of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and Ganesh Himal, along with other snow-capped peaks. Keep an eye out for the Lophophorus bird flying above you.

Day 7: High Camp to Siding Village

Today, our destination is Siding Village. We’ll start by descending from High Camp, crossing Nangge Danda. It’s a steep downhill journey that brings us back to Low Camp.

From there, we’ll take a different path towards the Mardi Khola River, cutting through thick forests. The walk continues until we reach Sidhing.

Tonight, we’ll stay in a guesthouse in Sidhing. Highlights of the day include walking through dense forests, passing by friendly little settlements, and seeing beautiful fields. It’s a chance to experience the untouched beauty of rural Nepal.

Day 08: Siding Village to Pokhara. 2.5 hours trek and 1-hour drive

Today, we’re heading to Pokhara. Starting from Siding, we’ll trek down along the river valley, passing through quaint settlements of Gurung and Tamang people until we reach Lumre.

In Lumre, we’ll catch a vehicle that will whisk us away to Pokhara in just one hour. Once there, you can spend the evening exploring the scenic Lake area.

Tonight, we’ll stay in a tourist hotel in Pokhara. Highlights include the stunning mountain views, charming villages of Tamang and Gurung people, and the attractions of Lakeside in Pokhara.

Day 9: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

After leaving Pokhara, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive to Kathmandu that lasts about 6-7 hours. Once you arrive in Kathmandu later in the evening, you can stroll around the lively streets of Thamel. There, you can shop for souvenirs or treat yourself to a delicious dinner at one of the nice restaurants.

Transportation

Mardi Himal Base Camp is located in the Annapurna region; therefore, we need to reach Pokhara first. Pokhara is easily accessible by road and flight. If you take the road, you can reach it within 6-7 hours, depending on the traffic and road conditions.

If you wish to reach more comfortably and in a faster way, then getting on a flight will be the best idea. You can reach Pokhara by flight in around 25-30 minutes from Kathmandu International Airport(TIA).

Note: The cost of all ground transportation will be included in the package. However, the cost of the flight will not be included in the package. You need to pay for the international and domestic flights on your own.

Wifi, Electricity, and Drinking Water

You don’t have to worry about the wifi, electricity, and drinking water for the Mardi Himal trek. You can get into the tea house after you pay a little extra. The wifi connection might not be good in high-altitude areas, but in lower-altitude areas, the connection is pretty good.

For drinking water, you can buy bottled water from the tea house. Also, you can refill the water from the tap or another natural source of water. But while using tap water or a natural source of water, you need to purify the water by using a water purification tablet. It’s not safe to drink directly from the natural source of water, as it can cause waterborne disease.

Physical Fitness

Even though the Mardi Himal Trek does not involve a technical climbing section, trekkers still need to maintain physical fitness for this trek. For Trekkers who have previous trekking experience, it will not be tough, but for new trekkers, it’s important to get ready.

Best local trekking company in Nepal!! An increadible journey!..and the Best local company in Nepal. I did the EBC + Chola Pass + Gokyo Lakes. Pemba (owner) customised my trip and took care of everything! I had a great guide Prayash who really helped me through the trek and gave me lots of knowlege and stories of the Everest region. I have been to mountains of Europe/USA/ NZ but the raw beaty of the Himalayas is something special. The physical challenge of altitude, the tea houses, high bridge crossings, Sherpa culture and all the fellow trekkers and climbers make this trip so unique. It has been a highlight of my life and i was fortunate to go with a local company who are genuinely passionate about sharing the Himalayas with you. Also at end of trek they organised sightseeing tours. I was also able to contribute to the companies charity in a small way some by donating some stationary and sports equipment to a mountain school. If you are going to Nepal i would highly recommend Pemba and his team of guides. I will be back! Namastae
