Additional Notes
Preparation for Island Peak Climbing
To join this beautiful Island Peak Climbing, climbers must be in excellent form both physically and mentally. Classified as Alpine PD+ this peak is challenging to climb, especially for novice climbers.
The main concern for the Island peak climbing is altitude sickness as you will be walking at extreme heights above 6000m. Climbers should be well aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness and be prepared for it.
Also, the weather conditions can be harsh and unpredictable at the higher altitude so extreme precautions should be taken. Climbers need to learn to stay in the tea house and in a tent with limited facilities. Also, a positive mindset is equally important for this peak climbing.
We suggest you prepare physically for 3-4 months before embarking on this peak climbing. Train yourself to live and cope with your body in the high-altitude areas.
You can also join a gym, do yoga, and start doing aerobic training, cardio, strength improvement training, hiking training, etc. Also, maintain your health by eating a balanced diet food and keeping hydrated yourself all the time.
Climbing Permit Required for Island Peak Climbing
It is necessary to obtain the climbing permit for the Island Peak climbing from the Nepal Mountaineering Association of Nepal(NMA). You can get the climbing permit on your own.
You need to go through the registered trekking agencies like Eco Nepal Trekkers for that. Also hiring a licensed Guide is compulsory to get the climbing permit. It is for the safety of the climbers.
The cost of the Island Peak Climbing varies depending upon the season that you choose to climb. Let’s see the cost for the Island peak climbing permit;
- Spring (March to May): USD 250 per person
- Autumn (September to November): USD 125 per person
- Winter (December to February): USD 70 per person
- Summer (June to August): USD 70 per person
Note: In addition to the climbing permit, climbers are required to pay a refundable garbage deposit of USD 500 to the NMA. Also when you climb with us all this cost will be included in the Island Peak climbing package.
Food and Accommodation During Island Peak Climbing
The initial trekking route of the island is well established as it is a similar path to the iconic Everest base camp trek. But when you go further from the base camp the facilities become limited.
You will spend the night in the Guest house/Tea house and stay in tents from Chhukung to Island Peak base camp during the trek.
Three meals are provided during the climbing journey which will be basic and traditional Nepali dishes including some international dishes. While staying in the tent, we will make arrangements to set it up, and our chef will cook delicious meals for you three times a day.
Kathmandu to Lukla Flight Information
During the Island peak climbing you need to reach the Lukla airport which is the main gateway for trekking or climbing in the Everest region. As per the new rules from the civil aviation of Nepal, you cannot take a direct flight to Lukla. You need to reach the Manthali airport before and take a flight to Lukla in peak season.
The chances of cancellation of a flight to Lukla are high in the winter and summer seasons. Make sure to travel during the best time and add your spare time to your itinerary so that your climbing journey will not be affected.
For more detail about the flight check here: Kathmandu to Lukla/Manthali to Lukla Flight
Travel Insurance for Island Peak Climbing
Due to the high risk associated with climbing the island peak, it is compulsory to have travel insurance. You need to understand that you cannot purchase insurance here in Nepal so make sure to have it before you leave your home country.
When purchasing travel insurance for Island Peak, make sure your policy covers altitudes above 6000m as well as other crucial aspects such as helicopter evacuation, flight cancellation, theft, medical treatment, etc.
Best Time for Island Peak Climbing
The best time for island peak climbing is during the month of spring and the autumn seasons. Climbing in the winter and monsoon is also possible but it is extremely challenging due to the high level of risk associated with this time.
Also during winter and monsoon the unstable weather makes it difficult to predict the weather conditions which can affect your climbing journey. Climbing the island peak during the best time not only helps to make your journey less challenging but also helps to minimize the risk.
Gear and Equipment for the Island Peak Climbing
For successful climbing, the climber must have the complete gear and equipment with them while climbing the island peak. You suggest buying branded clothing items for this peak climbing.
Check all the conditions of the gear and equipment if you already have. You can also rent trekking equipment for just a few dollars per day if needed.

ISLAND PEAK ADVANCED CARE AND RESCUES
In Nepal, helicopter evacuations are the standard response to emergencies, and the logistics are handled by a well-established system.
It goes without saying that having travel insurance is essential, as is being transparent with the insurance provider about your plans and destination. In an emergency, the team, the guide, the porters, and anyone else in the area will be in charge of transferring the casualty initially.
Moving the victim to the closest safe location and subsequently to a location where an evacuation may be conducted will be the task. This could take some time and travel a considerable distance on a Himalayan summit.
Note: Since unpredictable weather is the primary cause of helicopter aid delays, it’s critical to recognize that self-reliance and self-management are essential in the mountains.
