Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek – 21 days Brief Insight
Tsum Valley Trek with Manaslu Circuit Overview
The 21-days Tsum Valley Trek with Manaslu Circuit can be considered a thrilling journey that leads you to the peaceful areas of the Manaslu Region. With the breathtaking view of the awesome mountain, sunrise view, trekking through diverse landscapes and kind hospitality, the trek is as much a fascinating experience as the Everest base camp, Annapurna Circuit and Langtang trek.
It makes you feel as if you are in the real painting. This place is heaven on earth. Although the number of trekkers is increasing each year, the trail paths are still less crowded than other treks.
Situated high in the Himalayas, Tsum Valley can be accessed via an extra trip off the Manaslu Trail and requires two days of walking from the road’s end at Soti Khola/Machha Khola, Gorkha. The valley slope here is quite steep. Although you can hear the river far below everywhere, you hardly ever get a good look at it because of the glacier melt, which has turned it blue.
There are a number of lodges in the valley’s lower portion that provide food and lodging for hikers. The hamlet, which features lovely wooden cottages, is dispersed over the mountainside. Going into the Tsum Valley is like going into a new the natural world; it’s hidden and profoundly Buddhist, with prayer flags, chortens, prayer wheels, Gumpas, and monasteries everywhere you look.
The sound of insects, birds, livestock, and the voices of locals laboring in their fields fills the air, in addition to the subtle murmuring of the river. A group of monkeys, a gray wolf, an Asian black bear, blue sheep, Himalayan musk deer, a tahr, a snow leopard, and other wild creatures can also be seen during the journey.
Among the restricted trekking areas of Nepal, Tsum Valley trek with Manaslu circuit trek is one of the top trekking places that every trekker must visit. Traveling through beautiful nature to the top of the Larke La Pass, this trail provides challenge as well as full of adventure.
Although these treks are located in inaccessible areas of Nepal, Yet there are enough places for trekkers to stay known as teahouses. Thus, there is no need for a tent and food with you. Also, you don’t need to take a flight to reach the trekking destination, which will save you money.
You will spend most of your time on this trek in a mountain area with basic comfort. Moreover, keep in mind that this is classified as a moderate to strenuous hike. Trekkers need to make the right plan and preparation to start this journey.

After a little while, we arrive at Ekle Bhatti, where the trail splits into the Manaslu Circuit hike and Tsum Valley. Travelling further, we arrive at Lokpa, where we spend the night at our lodge.
The Lokpa settlement is home to the Tsumba people. The Tsumba people have been preserving their distinct Tibetan Buddhist tradition for generations. They also have their own culture, faiths, native cuisine, and festivals.
These wooden and stone homes are built in the Tibetan style. This settlement, encircled by a towering mountain, is among the greatest spots in Tsum Valley to take in the scenery.

- Trek Distance: 6.3km / 3.9miles

After having a delicious breakfast in the Lokpa tea house, we will start our trekking journey today. The majority of our trekking route follows the Sheyar Khola, a tiny river, as it descends to Chumling Village, which is situated at an elevation of 2,320 meters.
Even though it’s only 7.2 kilometers, it takes around five leisurely hours to complete because of the serene, untouched scenery and sound of the river.
Leaving Lokpa we will reach Ghadhi Khola which will be around 3 hours 20 minutes of easy hike. 40 minute of walk from Lokpa you will reach simple, wild, and serene stroll across the little suspension bridge, from where you can enjoy the second suspension bridge on the side of Shyar Khola in the first section.
Now from here we will pass through a steep section after crossing this cantilever bridge, but the recently constructed stairs and rest area in between, with the trees overhead and a water tap, make you feel as though you are in a haven. With Chamer Mountain in front and Buddha Mountain in back, as well as chilly air and a melodic river, this steep section only takes twenty minutes to complete.
Until we reach Ghadhi Khola, the trail goes uphill for twenty minutes and then somewhat steep for a further twenty minutes. Due to the deep Rocky mountains and other natural characteristics, the path segment between Lokpa and Ghadhi Khola is sweeping and has both ups and downs. Because of landslides and the challenge of creating a possible path, this section has a lot of hilly terrain.
Now from Ghadi we need to hike again for around 45 minutes of easy walk. During the hike we can get the best view of the Chumling Valley including the stunning view of Ganesh HImal range. After we reach Chumling we will spend the night in the nice tea house and after having the delicious dinner we will take a rest.
Day 06: Trek from Chumling (2,386m / 6,692ft) to Chhokangparo (3,010m / 9,875ft)
- Trek Distance: 8.4km / 5.2miles
- Highest Altitude: 8.4km / 5.2miles
- Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs
- Accommodation: Tea house in Chhokangparo
After Chumling, the trail meandered between fields and through forests at a gentle pace. You could always hear the river beneath us. The paths’ sides had been painted with colorful butterflies and flowers.
The path changes after about an hour of leisurely walking. Now it’s time to take a tough climb. This marks the top of the valley’s boundary between the flat glacial plain above and the lower, steep-sided river valley. The trail to the top required an hour of strenuous climbing.
After reaching the top you can see a tented cafe halfway up the steep slope, situated atop a little rocky platform. There are numerous Buddhist chortens in the upper valley, most of which are visible from a distance due to their prominent locations or hilltop positions. They are made from mani stones, which are engraved with Buddhist words and symbols.
The unique features of this stunning valley are enhanced by the prayer flags that adorn them. We spent the night at a brand-new resort on the edge of Chhokangparo hamlet. We got to the village early enough in the afternoon to have some downtime and to take in the sights.
The roofs of some older structures are made of overlapping stones, and many of the residences are constructed of stone. Corrugated iron is used on the majority of modern roofs, and it is far safer during earthquakes.
Also you can explore the Gorgeous Buddhist murals that adorn the interior walls and ceiling of Chhokangparo’s recently constructed entryway. The significance of these images and designs with vivid color will astonish anyone who visits here. The quality of workmanship is indescribable. We will spend the night in the tea house of Chhokangparos.
Day 07: Trek from Chhokangparo (3,010m / 9,875ft) to Nile (3,361m / 11,026ft) via Milarepa Piren Phu Cave
- Trek Distance: 9.7km / 6miles
- Highest Altitude: 3361m / 11,026ft
- Trek Duration: 4 -5 hrs
- Accommodation: Tea house in Nile
Although we won’t be traveling as far today, the trip will nonetheless be thrilling. The last town in the north upper Tsum Valley, Chhule, is about 20 minutes’ walk across from the Nile, which is located on the western bank of the Shikhar Khola. Because the area is fertile, you will see people farming when you arrive at Ngakyu Leru.
You’ll pass Lamagaon and arrive at St. Milarepa Piren Phu Cave, where they believe he left his footprint embedded in the rock. One of the Tsum valley’s most revered caverns is Piren Phu, also known as Pigeon Cave. Attached to the stony cave are two distinct Gumbas.
Piren Phu Cave is one of the most significant socio-cultural assets in the valley because of its richly painted Buddhist murals, substantial Buddhist paper scripts, lengthy prayer flags, and superb artistic scripts carved on stones. From there, we hike through a number of towns until we reach the Nile by crossing the Shiar River via a rope bridge.
Day 08: Trek from Nile (3,361m / 9,875ft) to Mu Gompa (3,700m / 11,026 ft)
- Trek Distance: 7.9km / 4.9miles
- Highest Altitude: 3,700m / 11,026ft.

- Accomondation: Tea house in Mu Ghompa

Consequently, the trail takes you to the highest point of the Tsum Valley walk, the Mu-Gompa. The stunning Kharkhas and yak pastures will be seen during your journey.
The Mu Gumpa greets you with joy and laughter across the property. As you arrive, you can have a deeper look about and become familiar with the local way of life.
